Nesting – A Sacred Mixed Media Art Workshop

IMG_8734.JPG

I had the opportunity to co-lead the art focused Creative Playshop at “The Body Now” Summer Retreat with Turning the Wheel this past week. It was a treat to guide our intimate class through the stages of creating a beautiful mixed media sculpture. The theme this year was “Living our Joy” and after much deliberating me and my creative partner, Dodi, settled on creating nests this year.

Nests are such a powerful image of growth and home. They encapsulate so many aspects of a healthy life. Manifesting, nurturing, protecting, growing, snuggling, nesting. Dodi and I steered our lovely group of participants into new relationships with the materials and their own inner artist. My personal agenda for the Creative Play session was to spark a new way of relating to art in the individuals. We played with the materials beyond the visual realm, relating to the way they felt, the way they resonated, the way they brought us joy.

At the end of the week each person had a perfect little capsule of the joy from the class filled with intention and beauty. I’m always shocked at the buoyant creativity each person brings to the table. Each nest was a unique expression of the creator. I modeled the steps each day by creating my own nests. We had two options for creating. One started with a decoupage bowl base, and the second started with a paper bag. I ended up creating two, while everyone else dove deeply into one creation, which lead to a wonderful depth in the sculptures. That being said I’m still very happy with my two little treasure nests.

We ended the week with a showcase at the closing celebration.  Watch the Video Here.

Huge shoutout to Dodi for being the best mentor and partner in guiding this class. Love you!

Each magical addition added to the story and the joyful power.

On day three we shared our joy with each other by creating tokens for another persons nest. I cherish my token from Suzanne!

Joy Journal – A Capsule of My Time at Summer Retreat 2017

For the past several years I have attended “The Body Now” Summer Retreat as a lead facilitator for Turning the Wheel. It has become a time for me grow in my leadership skills and to rest into my self so that I can step back into the world bright and inspired. This year was no different and the I feel filled to the brim with joyous energy. I’m ready world. Watch out!

As part of the week of moving, playing, learning, breathing, connecting, and dancing we all have the opportunity to express ourselves through art. This years art project was to create a journal and the supplies and options were simply abundant. Each day I made several art pages that captured glimpses from the meditations and learnings of the week. My journal was quite expansive by the end. I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite pages from the week.

This page continued to evolve throughout the week.

I had the blissful opportunity to work on this while others were singing and dancing nearby. It was lovely.

A bag of tricks to keep me going forward. Stamping feathers might be my new favorite thing.

The only page with writing captured words from an exercise called “5 Years Forward”

Current Exhibition @ Fresh Thymes

I am so happy and honored to have my art up at the delicious Fresh Thymes Eatery.

My Celestial Beings Series is up through the end of July at Fresh Thymes and I love how it looks on their rustic wooden wall. They are also available for sale. There are only 9 of these beauties so go check them out today. They all need loving homes and I think they radiate with goodness. The “Celestial Beings” series was inspired by a collaboration with Turning the Wheel to create “The Good Box”

The project was focused on reclaiming the word good as a positive meditation word and resulted in the creation of 30 affirmation cards all with a phrase about the innate goodness in all of us. My art is featured on the cards, and I played an important hand in the final design. After the completion of the deck of cards I felt activated to create more paintings inspired by the goodness all around us. The “Celestial Beings” Series grew organically from this starting point.

I hope you enjoy them!

OBSESSION – Mini Paper Butterflies

If you follow my instagram I’m sure you’ve seen a myriad of pictures showcasing my newest, most favorite toy in my studio: my butterfly paper punch! I bought it on clearance at Michaels and it is by far one of the most satisfying art gadgets I’ve ever purchased.

The punch has three different shapes built in and with very little effort I can generate hundreds of beautiful one of a kind works of art. Inspired by my purchase I quickly generated a pile of painted papers using slap dash applications of acrylic paint, blended serendipitously with my brayer and gelli plate. Once the paint was dry I punched away and now I have this stunning pile of little gems that I can’t wait to integrate into even more delightful paintings. Stay tuned for even more butterfly madness.

Art Show at Anytime Fitness – Boulder

My first public art show is up! My art! On walls in a local venue! Go me!

 img_7145

I am excited to announce that my art will be hanging at Anytime Fitness for the next three months. Anytime Fitness is a local gym and I reached out after seeing their call for art. Apparently members of the gym had requested art for the space and the team at the store decided collaborating with local artists would be best. I am honored to be the first artist to exhibit in their space.

Anytime Fitness has a super chill vibe, friendly atmosphere, and you can check out my art by scheduling a tour of their facilities. Or if you are already a member, go get some exercise and soak in the colorful paintings. Thats what I plan to do! Paintings are available for purchase. Prices listed in the price sheet in the office.

Brand New Crayons!!

A long time ago I found an image on the internet of a rainbow unicorn zebra thingy. It was a great picture, but the best part about it was the comment from the artist. It read something along the lines of “new box of crayons… YAY!” Every time I buy a new box of crayons (which is more often then it probably should be) I have a similar feeling.

All the crayon things! All the crayon things!

This time I had a really valid reason for buying new crayons. I can’t find mine. They have vanished into my pile of misplaced things that were relocated from my flooded condo. And I just didn’t buy any old box of crayon. I bought three “pick your pack” crayon boxes from target, which make my inner child SO happy.

I bought three packs, and a lovely tin to put them in. I chose the Bejeweled pack because it had a peacock on the box. I chose Glitterati despite its scary picture on the package because it promised glitter, which I can never resist. And I chose pixie dust because I liked the fairies and liked the colors.

Crayon Sketchbook Page

Here are the crayons in action! I colored a little doodle I drew a couple days ago, and then I copied the back of the packages and created little swirlies of each crayon. I think there is some overlap between the Glitterati and Bejeweled packs, but it will take a little more experimenting to make sure.
